SuperSums Details

What is it ?
SuperSums is an easy to use program that generates sums on the screen, checks the answers given and keeps a record of them. It is for use both at home and at school.
The sums generated can be additions ("a + b =?"), subtractions ("a - b =?"), multiplications ("a x b =?"), divisions ("a / b =?") or tables 1 through 12. Only integer values ("whole numbers") are used and these are generated by the program within the limits set by the user on the main screen. From a single screen the user controls how many sums will be asked, of what type, and what the highest number is that is to be used (which can be different for each type). Tables can be tested to 'Bronze' level (e.g. 1x6=? , 2x6=?, 3x6=?, etc), 'Silver' level (e.g. 3x6=?, 9x6=?, 1x6=?, etc) or even 'Gold' level (e.g. 24=6x?, 54=6x?, 12=6x?, etc).
When a pupil answers a question incorrectly, the correct answer is shown on screen for immediate feedback. A revision screen is included which shows the entire tables 1 through 12 for on-screen revision, but this screen is not accessible while the sums are being answered.
The program keeps a record of the results of the last 20 sets of questions, containing details like pupil's name, number and type of questions asked, % answers correct and average time to answer.
To indicate how easy the program is to use, our own 9 year old took less than 5 minutes to work out how to set up the sums and start answering them.

Why kids love it
Because it's different ! Short sounds indicate correct/incorrect answers; the revision screen is just 1 click away and the 'Well Done' screen after each set of questions is an instant reward that shows how well they have done. Also the %correct figure and average answer time introduce an element of competition that is hard to resist.

Why teachers love it
It enables and encourages unsupervised practice, but at the same time it enables teachers to monitor progress via the History screen, where the results of the last 20 sets of questions are stored. Also, pupils get many times more practice this way than via the old pen & paper based method. It is not unusual for kids to get through 100 sums in under 5 minutes, which was previously impossible. This greatly increases the speed of learning and at the same time vastly reduces the time required of the teacher.
As the boundaries for the sums are so flexible, SuperSums can be set up for pupils of ANY ability, from ages 5 to 12 and beyond. SuperSums can be used by pupils individually or in small groups, both at school and at home.

Why parents love it
Because it is a cheap and efficient way to get their kids to practice more, which increases their speed of learning and at the same time takes much less time of the parent than traditional methods. By controlling the sums boundaries, parents can ensure that progress is maintained throughout.
